About Spritfuchs24.de

Fuel prices for German cities – from official data, complete and unchanged.

Who is behind it

Spritfuchs24.de is an independent project by André Pfohl from Stutensee, near Karlsruhe, who also runs SunnyTracker. The site is free to use without registration and does not belong to any mineral oil or petrol station company.

Method

How we work

Where the data comes from and what we do with it – and what we don't.

Official data

All prices come from the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels at the Federal Cartel Office, to which petrol stations must report every price change within five minutes. We obtain them via Tankerkönig.de.

Unchanged

We show prices, names and addresses exactly as the Market Transparency Unit supplies them – each with its own station. We calculate averages and price ranges ourselves and label them as such.

Nothing hidden

The list shows every station within the radius, including closed ones. We favour nobody; you choose the fuel type and the order.

No estimates

If the price service cannot be reached, we show no prices rather than estimated ones – and never prices older than 15 minutes. The typical daily pattern under the 12 noon rule is labelled as such.

1,588 cities

All German cities with 10,000 inhabitants or more, each with a radius of 5 to 10 kilometres around the city centre – depending on the size of the city.

Report an error

If a price is wrong, you report it to the Market Transparency Unit with one click. It passes the report on to the station operator.

Interface

How we go easy on the interface

The fuel prices come via the free Tankerkönig interface. So that it works for everyone, we query it as rarely as possible.

At most one retrieval per minute

No matter how many visitors are here at the moment: we query the interface at most once per minute. If that is not enough, we show the most recently loaded prices – at most 15 minutes old and with a clear timestamp.

As much as possible per retrieval

Every retrieval fetches all stations within a 25-kilometre radius – the maximum of the interface – and is positioned so that it contains as many cities as possible in full. All 1,588 cities need only 243 retrieval areas; the largest one contains 39 cities.

Current for five minutes

A retrieval counts as current for five minutes – as Tankerkönig recommends. During this time all visitors whose area lies within it get the same data: city page, region, nearby search and saved list.

Simultaneous requests bundled

If several visitors request the same area at the same time, only one request goes to the interface anyway.

Only on click

Data is retrieved only when someone opens a page or presses a button – never automatically in the background, never for search engine crawlers. If the interface responds with an error, we pause for one minute.

Nearby search on a grid

The search around your location sends only a grid cell of about 10 × 10 km, which all visitors in it share – often the data of the surrounding city pages is enough. Your coordinates stay on your device.

Saved list in one go

The prices of your saved stations – up to ten – usually come from data that has already been loaded; the rest arrives with a single retrieval.

Our own calculations

What we calculate from the history

Every night we evaluate the historical data of the Market Transparency Unit – without putting any load on the interface.

Daily mean

For each city, the average of all stations within the radius, weighted by how long each price applied. For regions and federal states we average the cities, each counting equally.

Jump at 12 noon

Since 1 April 2026, petrol stations may only raise prices at 12 noon. For each station we compare the price at 12:15 with the price at 11:59 and average across the city.

Price changes per day

How often a station changes its price in a day – increases and decreases combined, averaged across all stations in the city.

Historical data: Tankerkönig.de, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Our averages are released under the same licence. We do not publish values for individual stations.

Accessibility

Spritfuchs24.de is meant to work with a keyboard, a screen reader and magnification: a “Skip to content” link takes you past the header, prices are read out in full, charts have a text description, and motion is removed if your device asks for reduced motion. Light and dark mode can be switched at any time.

If you come across a barrier, write to us at [email protected] – we will remove it as quickly as possible.

Questions about Spritfuchs24.de

Why is my city missing?

We cover all cities with 10,000 inhabitants or more. If your town is smaller, “Use my location” finds the nearest city with its petrol stations.

How accurate are the prices?

As accurate as the reports from the petrol stations to the Market Transparency Unit. They must report every change within five minutes; a few minutes can pass between retrieval and display. The price at the pump is always what counts.
