How we work

Best time to fill up

When filling up pays off today

Since the 12 noon rule, prices follow a fixed rhythm – cheap in the morning, expensive from 12 noon.

Usually cheapest in the morning until 12 noon

Since 1 April 2026, petrol stations may raise their prices only once a day, at 12 noon – they may lower them at any time. That is why fuel is usually cheapest shortly before 12 noon and most expensive just after. By about 18:00 most of the jump has usually worn off again. For all of Germany, the chart on the right shows how it actually went.

No price increases before 12 noon – usually cheapest in 2 h

Before 12 noon, stations may only lower their prices. It is usually cheapest in the late morning. Typical pattern, not a forecast – the current prices are what counts.

Frequently asked questions

When is it cheapest to fill up?

Usually in the morning, shortly before 12 noon. Since 1 April 2026, petrol stations may raise their prices only once a day, at 12 noon; they may lower them at any time. Right after 12 noon fuel is therefore usually at its most expensive, and by about 18:00 most of the jump has worn off again. That is the typical pattern according to the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels (MTS-K), not a guarantee – compare the current prices before you fill up.

Where do the prices come from?

Operators of public petrol stations must report every price change for Super E5, Super E10 and diesel within five minutes to the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels (MTS-K) at the Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt). Spritfuchs24.de obtains this data via Tankerkönig.de and shows it unchanged.

How current are the prices?

Prices are retrieved when you open a city page; the time of retrieval is shown there too. A retrieval counts as current for five minutes at most. The price at the pump is always what counts.

Does Spritfuchs24.de show all petrol stations?

Yes, all petrol stations in the radius that report to the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels (MTS-K) – including closed ones, which are at the end of the list. Nothing is hidden or favoured; you decide the order yourself, by price or distance.

What is the difference between E5 and E10?

Super E5 contains up to 5 per cent bioethanol, Super E10 up to 10 per cent. Most petrol cars can run on E10 – whether yours is one of them is in the owner's manual or in the list of the Deutsche Automobil Treuhand (DAT), a German provider of vehicle data.

Does Spritfuchs24.de cost anything?

No. The site is free to use, without registration, without ads and without trackers. You can also add it to your home screen as an app via your browser.
